There is so much more to Tango than just dancing! Kick off the evening with a free discussion group (chamuyo) with Christy Coté. Get her perspective on the music, dance, and culture of Tango. Bring your questions and enjoy the evening with this internationally renouned master instructor from San Francisco. Come join in the fun.

Continue the evening with great food, drink, music, and most of all dancing. Christy will supply the music so be ready for a wonderful mix of music to dance some fantastic tandas. $10 cover for this social dancing event at Nexus, the same beautiful venue as the classes. 11:00 – 12:30 pm The Structure and Codes of Argentine Tango, Part 1 (beg/int)

Important Concepts for the social dance floor from here to Buenos Aires! Molinetes, Forward Ochos, & Back Ochos - understanding and perfecting these elements is the key to making the rest of your dance fantastic for you and your partner.

12:30 – 2:00 pm Creating Musical Expression in the Follower's Role (int)

From basic to advanced embellishments, and how to create opportunities for followers. So, while followers are developing their embellishments, leaders are developing an understanding of how to make space for followers to enjoy these opportunities as well as getting some ideas for their own embellishments.

2:30 – 4:00 pm Pasos for Perfectly Musical Vals (int/adv)

Focus on musicality and phrasing of steps in Vals.


Saturday, November 23rd, at Nexus, San Luis Obispo

7:00pm – 10:00pm Milonga (Social Dancing)

Join us for a Milonga (social dancing) at Nexus, the same beautiful venue as the classes, $15 cover. Feel free to bring a beverage or snack to share.




Sunday, November 24th at Nexus, San Luis Obispo

11:00 – 12:30 pm The Structure and Codes of Argentine Tango, Part 2 (beg/int)

Walking, Crossing, and Boleos - yes, boleos are considered a beginning topic because the technique of the relaxed leg is so fundamental to the whole dance. Part 1 from Saturday is highly recommended before taking Part 2.

12:30 – 2:00 pm Milonga Fun! (int/adv)

Creative Pasos (steps) to add to your Milonga basics.

2:30 – 4:00 pm Cross System Magic (adv)

Creating a "string of pearls" made of improvisational steps in cross system (uneven walk) then "hang a pendant" of Boleos for a delightful dance.


Weekend Classes at Nexus, San Luis Obispo:

3845 S. Higuera, Downstairs in the SLO Public Market, across Tank Farm from Trader Joe's. If you have not previously signed the Nexus online liability waver, please do in advance.




Cost for 90-Minute Group Classes: $35 per person per class. Register for multiple classes at once and save: 2 for $65, 3 for $90, 4 for $110, 5 for $130, or get all 6 for $145. Pre-register online.

The last 15 minutes of each 90-minute class will be for practice and/or warm-up for next class. Please try to arrive early so you don’t miss anything.

Private instruction is available for $130 per hour, discounted to $110 for singles or couples who have registered for at least one group class. Please contact Rich to schedule private classes.




Based in San Francisco, Christy Coté has been dancing and teaching Argentine Tango for 29 years.
