Friday, April 7th
8:30 – 9:30 pm Chamuyo and
9:30 – 11:30 pm Milonga
There is so much more to Tango than just dancing! Kick off the evening with a free discussion group (chamuyo). Christy will discuss the music, dance and culture of Tango, and maybe even some stories from her recent trip to Buenos Aries. Bring your questions and enjoy this informative chat.
Continue the evening with food, drink, music, and most of all dancing. $5 donations welcomed.
Saturday, April 8th
1:00 – 2:30 pm Basics (Beginner)
If this is “your first embrace with Argentine Tango” or you are a beginning level Tango dancer, this is the class for you. Christy & Darren’s clear teaching style will have you moving gracefully in no time.
2:30 – 4:00 pm Follower's Technique (all levels)
Tango Barre -- A must for all Followers and Leaders. Productive exercises will highlight detailed technique for the 6 fundamental elements of Walking, Cruzada, Forward & Back Ochos, Molinetes and Boleos. Leaders gain a greater understanding of the structure of the dance.
4:30 – 6:00 pm Improvisation & Embellishments (Intermediate)
If you feel locked into patterns and are searching for a truly improvised and beautifully embellished Argentine Tango, this is the workshop for you. Take your dancing to a higher level with an improvised, interesting, and musical approach.
Sunday, April 9th
1:00 – 2:30 pm Technique for a True Close Embrace (all levels)
The main focus of this class will be on the techniques of leading close embrace tango where two really do dance as one. But ladies, don’t think you won’t get anything out of this class, Christy wouldn’t let that happen!
2:30 – 4:00 pm Musicality (all levels)
Exploring the music of Argentine Tango - This is about knowledge. Understanding the music is the key to having an outstanding dance experience regardless of your skill level.
4:30 – 6:00 pm Milonga con Traspie (Intermediate)
Apply Close Embrace Tango technique to this fun and upbeat predecessor to Tango using syncopations to express musicality. All Workshop Events at Central Coast Dance: 2004 10th St., Los Osos. From Hwy 101 (north or south), exit on Los Osos Valley Rd. Proceed 10 miles Northwest to Los Osos and turn Right on 10th St., continue 2 blocks to Central Coast Dance on the corner of Santa Ynez Ave., above Los Osos Liquor. Please park on the street, because the lot is reserved for convenience store customers.
Cost:
$25 per person per class. Register for multiple classes and save: 3 for $70, 4 for $80, 5 for $90, or all 6 for $100. One-hour private classes available for $80 per couple, and one-hour semi-private classes for $160 for upto 8 people. Please contact Rich to schedule private and semi-private classes.The last 15 minutes of each group class will be for practice and/or warm-up for next class. Please try to arrive early so you don’t miss anything.
Christy Coté
-- dancing, choreographing and teaching professionally for more than 25 years -- began her career as a Ballroom and Latin dance instructor for Arthur Murray Dance Studios. For the past 10 years, she has devoted her love of dance to Argentine Tango becoming one of San Francisco's most respected dancers and teachers. She has been featured locally on KVTU's Segment 2 Report with Bob MacKenzie, KPIX/Channel 5 Evening Magazine and nationally in Dance Spirit Magazine.As the Creator and Director of the Academia de Tango Argentino at San Francisco's popular Metronome Ballroom she oversees and teaches a full schedule of group and private classes, workshops, practicas and Milongas. Christy's teaching method has been published in the Argentine Tango Manual by Dance Vision and is complimented by a series of 20 instructional DVDs/VHS tapes by Christy & George Garcia of Honolulu. Christy also co-hosts the popular Mariposa Argentine Tango Club Milonga. This is San Francisco's longest running Milonga, celebrating its 10 year anniversary in July 2006.
Darren lives in San Diego where her teaches independently for El Mundo Del Tango. Darren has been dancing Argentine Tango for just over 4 years and for the past 2 years he and Christy have enjoyed traveling together, teaching at various Tango communities, at festivals such as Reno´s Tango Brujo and on the Tango at Sea Cruises in 2004 and 2005.
Christy and Darren perform regularly with MonTango, Tango No. 9 and other Tango musicians and produce monthly Tango shows at San Francisco's Peña Pacha Mama restaurant. They also choreograph for and perform with their professional performance group, The LiberTango Dancers.
Christy & Darren look forward to returning to San Luis Obispo where they have made many good friends and shared many memorable moments!
