Argentine Tango Workshop

Friday, October 29th

7:30 – 8:30 pm Chamuyo and
8:30 – 10:30 pm Milonga at Jaffa Cafe

There is so much more to Tango than just dancing! Kick off the evening with a free discussion group (chamuyo). Mariana & Orlando will discuss the music, dance and culture of Tango. Bring your questions and enjoy getting to know this couple.

Continue the evening with great food, drink, music, and most of all dancing. They will do a demo or two for your enjoyment. $10 cover for this special Milonga at the Jaffa Cafe, 1212 Higuera St, San Luis Obispo (Higuera and Toro) includes a buffet (drinks are extra). The theme for the evening is Red & White, so wear something fun.

Saturday, October 30th

1:00 – 2:30 pm Fundamentals

Focus on Men's & Women's technique - posture, balance, and foot position. All Levels.

2:30 – 4:00 pm Beyond the Basics

Intensive techniques of Molinetes (Giros) and Sacadas. Int/Adv.

Sunday, October 31st

Don't forget the time change Saturday night / Sunday morning -- "Fall back one hour." :-)

1:00 – 2:30 pm More Fundamentals

Walking the floor - how to make a smooth displacement. All Levels.

2:30 – 4:00 pm Vals

Walking and spinning steps applied to Tango's version of the Waltz. Int/Adv.

Shell Beach Veterans’ Hall

Classes are at 230 Leeward Ave., Shell Beach. From 101, Exit 193, then south on Shell Beach Blvd. Leeward is the first right after the stop in front of Alex’s BBQ.

Cost: $25 per person per class. Register for multiple classes and save: 3 for $70 or all 4 for $90. Students save an additional $5 with ID. One hour private classes also available for $80 per couple, contact Rich to schedule.

The last 15 minutes of each class will be for practice and/or warm-up for next class. Please try to arrive early so you don’t miss anything.

Orlando Paiva Jr. and Mariana Melling, both, were born and grew up in a Tango atmosphere, respecting and loving this dance. They have taught and performed in Argentina, Europe, and the USA. Their romantic and elegant style of tango is a hallmark of the Paiva legacy (Orlando's father taught and performed tango for 40 years becoming a legend in his generation, respected by Nito Garcia and by Juan Carlos Copes).
